Dr. Cross is Professor of Neurology and Section Head of the Neuroimmunology Section in the Department of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She is board certified in Neurology and is a specialist in multiple sclerosis (MS). She performs both clinical and laboratory research, and has special interests in the role of B lymphocytes and antibodies in MS, the role of adipokines in MS, and in better understanding of the mechanisms by which cells of the immune system traffic into the brain and spinal cord. She is currently the principal investigator of a federally funded grant that is doing cutting edge research on imaging MS lesions. She received her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, completed a neurology residency at the George Washington University in District of Columbia, and went on to do fellowship training in neuroimmunology and MS pathology at the National Institutes of Health and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, respectively. Dr. Cross joined the faculty of Washington University in 1991, remaining there ever since. She is author of 150 papers and book chapters. Dr. Cross serves as the co-Director of the John L. Trotter MS Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, which sees 2,000 MS patients annually.
