James P. Dooher was born in Niagara Falls, NY and currently lives in Rochester, NY. He is 72 years old and is a graduate of Niagara University and continues to be an active alumnus. Dooher spent his life working with large scale computers and last worked as a systems engineer on data base communications for Chase Lincoln, now JP Morgan Chase. He retired from Chase Lincoln in 1994. He also worked at Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna, NY and the Carborundum Company in Niagara Falls, NY.

Dooher has a long medical history that began with a heart attack in 1995. He then arrested while exercising in 1998. In 1999 he found out he had prostate cancer and he currently has cardiac assistance from a defibrillator and pacemaker. He also had lumbar laminectomy in the past 5 years. While visiting his family in Arizona in December 2005, Dooher contracted Influenza A. He spent 6 days in the hospital, 3 of those in ICU. In January 2006 he went to Florida and while there he contracted pneumonia and suffered from heart arrhythmia. He spent 4 days in the hospital while still undergoing lumbar rehabilitation. Dooher's paternal grandparents both died from the flu during the Spanish Invasion in 1915 and 1918.

Dooher and his wife Annette have 7 children and 5 grandchildren. He is very active in Irish affairs as a long time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) and is an officer and president of the local chapter of the Irish American Cultural Institute.
