Daniel Leffler, MD, MS is the Director of Clinical Research at the Celiac Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.  Prior to medical school he completed a Masters degree in Nutrition at Columbia University, where his interest in celiac disease first began. 

Dr. Leffler’s currently divides his time between clinical care and clinical and translational research in celiac disease.  Projects to date have involved the study of factors which influence dietary adherence, non-responsive celiac disease, clinical trial design, immunologic changes which occur with celiac disease activation and the creation of clinical algorithms for diagnosis and treatment of celiac disease.  To continue his work in celiac disease, Dr. Leffler has been awarded a five year career development grant from the National Institute of Health.   

Dr. Leffler also is actively involved in patient and clinician education relating to celiac disease.  He lectures widely and has assisted in the development of multiple continuing medical education resources on celiac disease.  Most recently, with renowned celiac dietician Melinda Dennis, he has co-authored a book for patients entitled: Real Life with Celiac Disease.
