Dr. Liesveld is Professor of Medicine and Hematology/Oncology and an attending hematologist at the University of Rochester Medical Center’s James P. Wilmot Cancer Center.  She is an expert in the care of patients with and research related to leukemia and blood and marrow stem cell transplantation.  She earned her medical degree at the University of Iowa. She completed an internship and residency at Strong Memorial Hospital and then hematology and medical oncology fellowships at the URMCHer research interests focus on improved therapies for acute myelogenous leukemia and on methods to improve the success of stem cell transplantation.  These include hematopoietic stem cell expansion and mobilization, effects of hematopoietic growth factors on leukemia cell proliferation (correlative clinical studies), hematopoietic stem cell adhesion and homing, and the role of signal transduction inhibition in treatment of acute myelogenous leukemia and myelodysplasia.
