Jason Karlawish, is a Professor of Medicine and Medical Ethics, and a Senior Fellow of the Center for Bioethics and of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the Associate Director of the Penn Memory Center.  He serves on the board of directors of the Greenwall Foundation. Dr. Karlawish' s research focuses on ethical and policy issues in research and care that involves older adults, particularly adults with cognitive impairment. He has investigated issues in dementia drug development, informed consent, quality of life, research and treatment decision making, risk and biomarkers, and voting by persons with dementia. He is the author of Open Wound: The Tragic Obsession of Dr. William Beaumont. Based on true events along the 19th century American frontier, the novel chronicles how ambition slowly corrupts a physician’s character and ethics. His website is www.jasonkarlawish.com.
