Episodes in which Judy Eron, LCSW appears

Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Singer/ Songwriter
Author, What Goes Up…Surviving the Manic Episode of a Loved One

Judy Eron is a licensed clinical social worker and singer/songwriter.  She was in private practice for 30 years while simultaneously writing songs and performing for many different social and psychological groups, including the American Association of Suicidology.  She has shared the stage with country giants Kathy Mattea and Dotty West, and her songs have appeared in such diverse places as psychology textbooks, crisis center training videos, and cowboy poetry gatherings.  Judy’s CD, “You Made It Through Today” was recorded in 2000 after her husband Jim’s suicide, and her CD, “What Goes Up” was recorded in 2006 to accompany her book of the same title.

Judy was married to Jim, a psychologist with bipolar disorder.  Jim was healthy and high functioning, but had had several severe depressive and manic episodes before they had met.  Judy stresses that Jim’s being so well for the first 9 years of their marriage seduced them into ignoring the chronic cycling nature of bipolar disorder.  Consequently, they were not prepared for his next long manic episode and subsequent rapid fall into depression and suicide. This humbling experience is the basis of her book, What Goes Up. . . Surviving the Manic Episode of a Loved One, and for her emphasis on the need for planning ahead, when the person is well, and using available resources such as NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and DBSA (Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.)
