Dr. Rai is an internationally recognized clinician investigator in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), the most common adult leukemia in the United States. He is known for devising the Rai clinical staging system for CLL in 1975, which is still in use today. His current interests include the study and identification of new agents of promise in the treatment of CLL, as well as the study of the molecular biology of the disease. Specifically, Dr. Rai's research involves collaborating with laboratory scientists at the Feinstein Institute to improve prognostic indicators in CLL using additional molecular and flow-cytometric markers in this disease.
