Ovarian cancer survivor

Laura is a five year survivor of stage 3 ovarian cancer.  Laura is part of a support and advocacy group for women with gynecologic cancers at Gilda's Club in Rochester, New York. She volunteers for the Ovarian Cancer Hotline through SHARE. Laura is an active member of the national organization, Ovarian Cancer National Alliance and facilitates one of their programs at the University of Rochester, Survivors Teaching Students, educating medical students about earlier detection and treatment of ovarian cancer.  As a cancer advocate, Laura has traveled to Washington, DC to lobby on Capitol Hill for cancer issues such as funding and genetic anti-discrimination legislation. In April 2007, Laura was a guest speaker at the Cancer Research Institute meeting in New York City.
