Laurie Holmes

Episodes in which Laurie Holmes appears

Sunset House Hospice

For 30 years, Laurie Holmes was Executive Director of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in Rochester, New York.  Rochester’s CASA program was one of the oldest in the US and Laurie was the longest running director of a CASA program. Volunteers, trained and directed by Laurie, were appointed by Family Court judges to be the eyes and ears of the court. They advocate and watch over children who have been abused and neglected, and also end up in the foster care system.

After leaving CASA, Laurie became director of Sunset House, a hospice or comfort home located in a suburb of Rochester. There, she oversees volunteers and nurses who, quite frankly, are Earthly angels that help the terminally ill in the last stages of life.

While on vacation, Laurie Holmes started experiencing strange symptoms - the right side of her head was tingling and she had a severe headache.  A few days later, Laurie developed sores in her mouth, a rash on the right side of her face, and she was having trouble walking.  She was admitted to a hospital and ultimately diagnosed with Shingles, which resulted in a long trip back home and back to health.
