Dr. Thornburg is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist (high risk pregnancy) who sees patients with medical conditions both before attempting pregnancy in consultation, as well as during their pregnancy.  Her clinical practice cares for women with variety of maternal medical conditions that can result in pregnancy concerns, such as maternal diabetes, transplant, or autoimmune disease, as well as fetal complications such as high-order multiple gestations and fetal anomalies.  Additionally, she performs and interprets prenatal ultrasound and testing, and helps to advise and manage some pregnancy complications in consultation with a woman's general OB/GYN physician.

Dr. Thornburg received her undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College, graduating cum laude, and her medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2005, and her fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine (Perinatology/High Risk Obstetrics) in 2008, both at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC).  She is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Thornburg is actively involved with resident and fellow education at the local and national level, and is the director of obstetrical simulation for the residents and fellows at URMC.   She has written a number of articles related to care of high risk pregnancy, with a focus on the care of women with pregnancies complicated by obesity or diabetes.  Active areas of research include maternal obesity, ultrasound, and resident education.
