Suffered Multiple Concussions

Monica Cook, 23 years old from Webster NY, earned her BS in Imaging Science in 2010 from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).  She is currently pursuing her PhD in Imaging Science from RIT.  Her research involves developing the atmospheric characterization for a Landsat land surface temperature product.  While pursuing her graduate degree, Monica is also an assistant coach for RIT's women's varsity soccer team and the Empire Revolution Girl's State Academy.

Monica played varsity soccer for four years at RIT.  Cook, the 2011 Mark Ellingson Award winner for academic excellence at RIT, was named to the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District I Women's Soccer Team.  She was a second team all-district selection with a 4.00 GPA.

She suffered her first concussion during her freshman year.  She developed migraines and missed the remainder of her freshman year, but was able to return the following season.  Although she played her last three seasons, Monica had multiple shots to the head and suffered from frequent headaches.  After another concussion during recreational soccer, Monica gave up playing the game.  She now enjoys running and coaching.
