Dr. McDaniel is a board-certified family psychologist.  She is the Dr Laurie Sands Distinguished Professor of Families & Health, the Director of the Institute for the Family in the Department of Psychiatry, and Associate Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, at the University of Rochester Medical Center.  Dr. McDaniel’s career is dedicated to integrating mental/behavioral health into healthcare, and families and genetic disorders.  She has won many national awards for her work from mental health and primary care organizations.  Dr McDaniel is the author of many articles and 12 books, translated into 8 languages.  She is on the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Association and the Board of the Collaborative Family Healthcare Association.

Dr. McDaniel earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Anthropology from Duke University.  She earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and did an internship and a postdoctoral fellowship in Family Therapy at the University of Texas in Galveston and in Houston.  She has worked at the University of Rochester Medical Center since 1980, when she finished her training.[][][]
